Merry Christmas - 2012 XC Season Summary

Merry Christmas!

Sorry this is so long in coming.  Its been a crazy month and a half since Champs.  One more boy and I'll be fielding my own 4x400 relay in 10 years!

This is a complete 2012 CYO Cross Country Season Summary.  It includes overall team scores, by age group, age group champions, winning times, best time throughout the season, and all times recorded in each age group.

A very heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered throughout the season, especially Bill Brady who stepped in and started the races for me at Champs.  Special thanks as always and forever to Mary Ellen Malloy for everything she does to make this program the best youth cross country league in the nation.

Less than 3 months until the 2013 Track and Field season begins.

When I have a little more time (and power in my house), I'll work on getting a compilation of all the races from the season and the Champs scoring up in an excel document.

In lieu of that, here is a cute picture of my newest boy, Jason Gabriel who was born Saturday!

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to work at the meets at throughout the season.  CYO XC needs our volunteers to function effectively.  See you all next year!

Archdiocesan XC Champs - Sunday!

Just a reminder that this Sunday is Archdiocesan XC Champs!

At Champs, the race schedule changes to the following:

1pm - Novice Girls

followed by:

Novice Boys
Minor Girls
Minor Boys
Cadet Girls
Cadet Boys
3rd Grade Boys and Girls
2nd Grade Boys and Girls
1st Grade Boys and Girls
Kindergarten Boys and Girls

Award Ceremony to follow immediately after the completion of the Sub-Novice races.

Due to the forecast weather conditions, we will be trying to get the races off as quickly as possible.  I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU ARRIVE EARLY.  As there is no preset time for any race to begin, we will begin as soon as we can.

Official Philadelphia CYO Cross Country Long Sleeve T-Shirts will be for sale on Sunday at the meet.  Sweat orders should also be picked up on Sunday, the earlier the better.

10/21/12 Results

Sunday October 21 Meet - Parking Armageddon

To all,

I have just been informed that there are two college cross country races at the Plateau on Sunday morning.  One starts at 10 AM and the second starts at 11 AM.  Awards follow the second race.

Because parking will be a nightmare and course set up will also be challenging, I am asking all teams delay their arrival at the Plateau until after 12 PM.  If this means that the first race is delaying and does not start until 1:15, so be it.  As I recall from last year, the college teams did not clear out of there until after 12:30 PM. 

Please, please, please ask your parents not to come early for the first race.  The college teams arrive in buses and vans and they tend to park along the access road.  That is where most of the congestion will occur.  I would like to avoid any nasty confrontations between CYO folks and the college folks.

Great first meet everyone!

2012 Cross Country Packet

Here is the packet

(the file server is still a little buggy. I'll keep working to get this online).

All coaches should download a copy of the packet and read through it.

Some highlights for the 2012 season:

1. The fee has been set at $16 per athlete for all age groups.
2. Electronic timing, through a Chip implanted in your Bib number for the entire season! (no extra chip required)
3. Each team must submit a list of names, birthdays, gender, and grades to the Commissioner by Monday, September 10th at 6pm to be assigned a Bib/Chip number! Athletes must have this number to run on Sunday, September 16, 2012. This is NOT the same as your roster!
4. Same day (unofficial) results
5. Approximate course maps

Reminder: First meet is Sunday, September 16, 2012. Course walks start at 12pm. First race is scheduled for 1pm.

Coach's Affidavit (This is the 2011 version, Office of Education has not released a 2012 version that I know of, and I don't know what changes there will or will not be).

Cross Country Organizational Meeting

There will be an organizational meeting for the 2012 CYO Cross Country season on Thursday, August 16th, 7:30pm in the cafeteria at St. Anastasia School, Newtown Square.  There are some changes to cross country program that will be presented.  Every parish or school team should attempt to send a representative.

Entry into the stadium is free, CYO will be at the doors asking for donations as well.

T-Shirts will be for sale for $15. Archdiocesan Champs program, including history of past champions, records and Cross Country Champions will be $5. (Personally, I think this year's are the best we have ever done, make sure you get 'em early!)

Directions to Shot Put below. FYI - This is the same location as the last 3 years, don't be fooled by all the improvements. Please be cognizant of the Shot Put open pit times and conflict rules!

Walking from Franklin Field:

• Exit Franklin Field on South Street - Head toward Center City
• Cross over South Street to the south side of the bridge
• Take the stairwell adjacent to the Hollenback Center (the only red brick building by the bridge)
• Turn right at the bottom of the steps and head toward B Field (see google map)
• Enter the field through the open gate

 Driving:

• The University of Pennsylvania has parking lots right off the University Avenue exit of the Schuykill Expressway
• The parking lots are on your right. They will be open Saturday, however it is not certain whether or not there will be a parking fee (in the past there was no fee - UPDATE - $10 fee according to UPenn).
• You can walk from the parking lot to the shot put area following the temporary signs that will be in place to lead you to the shot put area

2012 CYO Night at the Penn Relays Final Updates!

Seating will be restricted this year to sections SAA - EB. That is the South Stands and the East Stands above the tunnel.  No one may sit in the upper decks. Athletes may enter the track through the South East Tunnel at 5:45pm.

This event is free, there is no charge to enter the stadium.

Here is an excel spreadsheet I compiled from Flash Results website. It has the results for CYO Night at the Penn Relays, 2001 thru 2011 (2004 is missing - update - found, thanks Judy Putsch!).  Flash Results is the official Penn Relays timing crew that does the timing for us every year, free of charge! Please don't ask me to correct/change any team names.  Prior to 2007 or thereabouts, the databases used erratic team names. I am not going to correct them.

Don't forget to download the program, it will not be available onsite tomorrow!

Here is the list of registered teams for 2012 CYO Night at the Penn Relays, as of this morning.  If your parish/school is not included on the list of teams, don't freak out, it just means you didn't run last year.

If I have made a mistake on the teams you have registered, please send me an email and let me know.

If you haven't turned in your roster yet don't wait too long, registrations are due April 16th!

Happy Easter track fans!

Just a reminder of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia blackout rules regarding practice during the Easter Triduum.  There should be no track practices or meets on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday or Easter Sunday.

Also a reminder that Penn Relays rosters are due in less than 2 weeks! Please send in your rosters per the instructions found in the 2012 track packet!

The 2012 CYO track & field season starts today! Good luck to all our athletes!

2012 Track & Field Update!

The 2012 CYO Track & Field season is right around the corner and we have some exciting changes to announce:

1. We have a new event this year - the Open 4x400 Meter Relay! Perhaps track & field's most dramatic and exciting relay is finally coming CYO! Similar to the Open 4x800, the 1st leg will be run by a novice, the 2nd by a minor, and the 3rd and 4th legs can be filled from any age group.
2. We have a new order of events to accommodate the 4x400.
3. We have also increased the distance limit to 3000 meters for all competitors. Event participation limits remain the same (3 for Novice/Minors, 4 - Cadets)

I have also put online the 2012 Archdiocesan Track & Field Championship Meet back-up, which should be used as the base for all Region/Division and Area Championships. If you have a new team in your Region/Division/Area to add, please contact me. The division and age-up date are set correctly. Meet directors' only changes should be to lane preferences.  If you have questions or need to change something else, please contact me.
