With the announcement that CYO sports were approved to move ahead for a spring 2021 season, the CYO Track & Field Committee and the Region Track & Field commissioners began meeting to explore the logistical challenges facing the regions, and the health & safety protocols needed to ensure our athletes, parents, coaches, and officials safety.
In accordance with the health and safety protocols issued by the Archdiocese, all athletes, spectators, coaches, and officials will be required to wear masks at all time. Mask exemptions for athletes must be documented with a note from a doctor and sent to the coach and region commissioner in advance.
While we are moving head with a spring season, there will be significant changes from previous years. There will be no CYO Night at the Penn Relays, or Area or Archdiocesan championship meets this year. Regions are able to extend their seasons through May to allow flexibility in scheduling to respond to COVID-19 conditions.
Every Region is facing challenges with facilities due to COVID-19. The Track & Field Committee is requiring that only one spectator per family of athletes attend meets. Officials do not count as spectators, so this is a great year to volunteer!
CYO sports are run by volunteers. To hold a season, our volunteer coaches and athletic directors will have to retain the necessary information to effectively contact trace in the case of positive cases. Please be sure to assist them in whatever way you can.
